The Benin Kingdom is famous for its ivories, bronze heads and sculptures. However, a majority of these treasures were stolen in 1897 by European invaders and are being displayed in Western museums to this day. #HistoryVille

This video was painful to hear regarding the history of Benin and their hand in the slave trade. Many descendants of the slave trade are here in America and still suffer greatly unto this day. I will not write any further comments because I am so hurt and angry.

This video is deliberately designed to castigate the history of the Benin Empire. Slavery played a very insignificant role in Benin history however this video intends to distort that fact. Note, there are contradictory statements from the narrator who specifies that pepper was the major trade item but goes on to talk about slavery for half the video. Meanwhile the Benin empire actually banned slavery for much of its trade with Europe and only engaged in the practice sparingly.

One more thing. Many of the slaves were under 20 years old and as young as 4.

This video is filled with lies and absolute nonsense, I do not want to believe you are a Nigerian, if you are then something is not right with you. The Benin Empire 🇳🇬( Edo people/tribe) never traded slaves, it was the Republic of Benin 🇧🇯 (country) formerly known as the Dahomey kingdom that were highly involved in the trans Atlantic slave trade and this is PUBLIC INFORMATION. I don’t know where you are from and neither do I care to, refrain from trying to distort the history of my people, if you can’t get your facts right, then back off. The Benin (Edo Dynasty) is not only active in present day Nigeria, the Oba of Benin is one of the most respected monarch in Nigeria and Africa.
