Mr. Sterling Hayden was a better actor than he thought he was. He made such great movies like Asphalt Jungle, Crime Wave and Dr. Strangelove. A man who lived many lives in 70 years. I'm sure he was a very interesting person. I wish I had known him.

Joan Crawford may have been difficult to work although she was always professional unlike her co-stars, . but she didn't hold a candle to the antics of Sterling Hayden and especially Mercedes McCambridge who had to be the most difficult Actress to work with in Hollywood! That is one reason Mercedes McCambridge stayed primarily in radio and thankfully got help from AA. She did become active in Alcoholics Anonymous in her later years. The later money fraud case involving her son and his suicide was a difficult time for her in the last years, but she managed to make it through those difficult times.
How this movie turned out so well is still somewhat of a mystery to this day!

Nowadays, "a women can lie, steal and even kill", ... yet the man still gets blamed. This movie, though great, is comical now, if this is feminism back then, what is it now? Maybe back then that was real feminism. Watch closely and listen to the dialogue. Crawford's character doesn't hate men and doesn't want to have anything to do with them - she just wants respect. She gives Johnny the full power to be a man in the end or was he pressured into being a SIMP.
