Finding Derivatives using your TI 89 calculator

This video explains how to use the TI 89 graphing calculator to calculate derivatives, including n-th derivatives.

To recap, the syntax to find derivatives is:
Press F3
select 'differentiate'
after the first parentheses enter your function
press ',' (comma)
enter the variable that you want to differentiate with (usually x)
press ')' (close parentheses)

@jhchao11 It is probably because you have a number stored into the x variable. From the home screen, press f6 (the Clean Up menu), then select "Clear a-z" and select yes at the prompt. That will clear all values stored in any letter.

Hello, I'm having trouble doing the derivative.

When I do d(x^9+5x^5+7x-10, x, 2)

I get 172

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Are my settings incorrect?

It'd be good to see a video explanation of standard error and least squares fit. It was rather simple on my TI-83, but the TI-89 is horribly intricate.

My calculator wont do any thing more then the 2x when I do your other examples it tells me its a non algebraic function. I don't know whats wrong with it. Do you have any suggestions ?
