Reason why pant was doing well today is because he got the best defense amongst current squad. You could literally not beat him through the gate even though batters on other end were tumbling

Look at the hypocrisy of the Aussies, 17 wickets in a day and no one bats an eye.
If this would happen in India, they would be bitching out loud with the regulars Vaughn, Ponting, Holding crying.

Jarrod, re Smith: his form is likely to keep dipping as he is so overly reliant on hand-eye coordination and studies have shown that players who relied on hand-eye coordination to make runs will have form slumps as their career winds down because reactions will be slower - this is why Smith's LBWs are all usually the same - he falls across his stumps and then misses the ball bang in front. Smith's batting seemed to only be godlike for that period from 2014-2019, before it dropped. Players who either adapt or have maintained their technique to be more reactive to line and length are more successful. Sachin used to be fairly hand-eye dominant before switching to a more classical, gritty style as he recognised that his reactions were getting worse. Joe Root's career has had such longevity because he is not as hand-eye dominant and appears to understand the physical demands of his batting very well.

TLDR: Smith will not have long left at the top of Test batting IMO due to his hand-eye coordination both failing and being his main weapon. Technically correct players such as Root have had the longevity they have had because they do not rely on HEC and as such can maintain the same consistency without changing loads about their batting. I think if Smith wants to be more successful, he needs to try to rely less on HEC.

The pitch didnt even look too bad at the start, but as more wickets feel you could just tell that the bats had no idea how it was going to move off the surface.
It wasnt bouncing dangerously like that awful gabba pitch, but the sideways movement from both seam and swing made the deck unplayable. Do we call it a shit tip?

Sorry Jarrod but looking at average as a metric at Optus seems very dumb. Not only is the sample size very small, Australia won the toss and batted first in all 4 Tests and given how good they are at home (generally speaking) it skews the stats heavily. Optus having a first innings average of 450 and second innings average of 250 has less to do with the pitch being good to bat on day 1 and suddenly getting tougher to bat on days 2 and 3 and more to do with Australia being the team to bat on day 1 and the lesser skilled visiting side being the ones to bat on days 2 and 3. Hypothetically if Australia had lost all 4 tosses and bowled first, it is entirely possible that those numbers would be flipped and then we'd be talking about how Optus is a bowl first wicket that gets better to bat on days 2 and 3 which would also be wrong.

Let this era be wickets wickets and wickets because older generation cricket viewers are more happy in seeing batters struggling and boasting about how there era batsman were superior.

I bet a grand let indian team of old bat of this surface in any PRIME form, they will get bundled SAME as this current lot, may be 20 run more MAX.

Yeah I get it everybody just loves this "balance" in cricket, but where is the that huh!, we saw players scoring runs man, 100s, 200s, jumping in air, stats and much more. This is just absolute REVERSE of IPL with IMPACT player, everything in bowlers favour.
