Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles says the state is working with the Commonwealth to set up a dedicated quarantine facility at Pinkenba "as quickly as possible”.
“We have agreed with them detailed specs of what that facility should look like and a scope of work to do the feasibility and planning work,” he said.
"AECOM have been appointed as the lead consultants to develop that plan.
“We have proposed it would be 1,000 rooms which would allow for 1,450 people at a maximum that we could see 800 people per fortnight arrive in the first stages ... which would allow roughly two ... Australian Government repatriation flights a week to bring home those stranded Aussies.
“I understand the officers from the Commonwealth and state government are meeting again at 11 today.
“There is a lot of work to be done but we will work with them as quickly as possible.
"In the meantime, I'd just underline that we have a detailed plan available for Wellcamp and we'd like to see progress on both facilities."
