India Meteorological Department has issued a severe cyclone warning for northeastern India. Cyclone Remal is expected to make landfall on West Bengal and Bangladesh coast on May 26. The anticipated landfall of the cyclone is projected to occur around midnight of May 26. The cyclone will bring with it extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The primary regions affected are WB, Tripura, Bangladesh coastal areas. Kolkata Airport Authority of India has suspended flight operations starting from 1200 IST May 26 to 0900 IST May 27. Residents in these areas are urged to brace for adverse weather conditions starting from May 26. NDRF has deployed 12 teams and five additional teams are kept on standby.
