Oh to return for a day, an hour, to walk again through once familiar surroundings while holding my mum or dad’s hand in a world that was all I knew and all I needed.

I used to work in Rotherham in the late 70’s and remember a lot of those landmarks. Nice to see the old Canklow Cafe on the roundabout where I spent many happy hours.

More great memories, my grandma and grandad use to have the Wilton Pub, and my dad was a frequent visitor to the Canklow hotel pub - when him and mum divorced he lived in the house opposite the pub - the end house

That was a wonderful 10 minutes John. A lot of it before my time and I’m just turned 70. Some places very well remembered. Thank you John and keep em coming.

Plenty of character in those days which Rotherham Councils over the years have successfully destroyed

Thank you John. I'll keep coming back to remind me of old, and better times for me. As a youth I was surprised at Cullumbines fish and chip shop because it seemed so modern. I'll bet there is a story behind it if it is recorded. I used to regularly watch 'Rotherham then and now' but it was taken down by YouTube, presumably because it used Glen Miller's music. It would be good if you could find the man who posted it and work with him. I'm banned from Facebook so I can't do it. I hope that you continue with your series. I loved the photo of kids sat in the road. Where I lived, the road was our playground where we could even have a hopscotch game chalked on the road.

Hard to believe it used to have so much soul before the council ruined it.

This is fantastic. Great to see these old pictures, given my age I was only able to recognise some places but it’s very sad to look back at how much things have changed. Quick question re; the white houses on the hill in Brinsworth, where were these located? I assume they were knocked down but I just can’t place them. Might have to ask my mum. Keep up the great work.

Very atmospheric pictures with the music. I was born at Listerdale Maternity Hospital in 1962 is there any pictures of that i believe the site is now a new housing estate. I live in near Norwich now

Excellent work, John. Do you remember Glaisher's supermarket at Wickersley? I think it is in the top left corner on one of the photographs.
