I've done this twice (with lemons instead of oranges) after seeing his videos, and it's great. It's milder than a potpourri smell, but much more pleasant and distinct. Highly recommended, especially if you're having an event at your place this December.

I tried this the other day and my oversensitivity to smells, even good ones, immediately ruined it for me. I'm continuing to experiment though! I recommend if you are someone who has scent sensitivity and want to try this, start with only one or two ingredients (such as lemon and orange or apple) and experiment with adding more things if you are able to tolerate the first ones for a while. Just be prepared to have to start over a few times until you find something that is easy to stomach for an extended period of time.

Peels work well enough without wasting good food and any almond or other extract will smell great

For less waste, you can do the same thing with some apple juice, apple cider, wassail or homemade holiday warm fruit drinks. Wash your fruits before adding them if you plan to consume the drink.

Growing up, we always added extra whole spices to the cider and would top it off with more juice when the drink started to get low.

That's like 8$ just in cinnamon sticks alone. Probably like 15$ totalfor a one time scent use. Just buy a bottle of febreeze it never runs out.
