Thank you for calling it terrorism!

I can't express how infuriating it's been watching mainstream Canadian media call all these guys as religious leaders

*Fun Fact:* Punjab province/state is not exclusive to India, Pakistan too has a larger Punjab province with sizeable Sikh population, however Khalistanis only want land carved out of India, and not Pakistan, because Khalistan is a project by Pakistan under its _"Bleed India by 1000 cuts"_ doctrine.

Edit: JJ is equating Sikhs as Khalistanis whereas in reality well over 90% of Sikhs don't want Khalistan, only those with allegiance to Pakistan want it.

You forgot to mention that Indian government had asked for Parmar’s extradition before the Air India bombing. It’s should have been easy as both nations are part of the commonwealth. However Justin Trudeau’s dad Pierre denied the request because Indian government didn’t consider the Queen (of England) a head of state.

I m a sikh Indian woman. We are not oppressed. The khalistani seperatist are sourcing their anger and motivation from the 1984 genocide. It was terrible but a work of a currupt selfish politics. The times have changed and yes the people and the govt is trying to move on and live in harmony. We are a part of our country and love and are loved equally.

The real problem is the lack of any arrests following such an attack, the worst airline related terrorism incident until 9/11. Witnesses were murdered along the way to a trial and eventually one person was convicted 20 years later and he served less than 5 years in prison. Imagine if the 9/11 terrorists survived and nobody cared to uncover who was behind it and those terrorists lived happily ever after in New York City.

This video is proof that if you want to really understand an issue, YouTube is often miles ahead of news coverage. Well done!

I'm neither Indian nor Canadian, but I am fascinated by how immigrant groups are often much more nationalistic and radical than the people back home. In particular, I'm from Croatia and my impression is that immigrant Croatians in Germany and Australia often tend to care much, much more about historical issues and our grudges with our neighbors than most people that I know in Croatia.

In Kolkata all parents told their daughters to hail a Sikh taxi driver if they were commuting at night but now there are very few of them left This is the type of respect the Sikh Community had and still have in Bengal .

As a Indo-Australian from a Sikh background, it’s super interesting to see the difference in discourse and culture with regards to Khalistan. My entire life I haven’t really seen anyone here share that rhetoric for support for the movement - or most people just don’t care at all or are indifferent. Seeing this play out in Canada, and in its politics - is super interesting.

As a non-India and non-Canadian, thank you for letting me know the world is a worse place than I thought it is. Honestly, great video, great explanation.

JJ didn't want to touch the Indian side but Sikhs in general are respected and highly valued in India for their contribution to Indian society, in particular the sacrifices they made for Indian independence and continue to make even today. India's anger toward Canadian indifference over Sikh extremists is broadly shared in India - not just among chauvinist Modi supporters!

I'm from India and not a Sikh. I'd been following this issue for a while. There haven't been one, who actually put things to perspective; like its been done here. Truly unbiased and exceptional. Like the turban they wear, the Sikh community are a kind of pride to our country. Its really sad to know that the complete community is been shamed because of some handful of miscreants. I just hope that this ends soon. Once again, a beautiful commentary.

Having friends who are from Canada, friends who are Sikh and some acquaintances who are from India, this was a very interesting experience over the past week or so.

Sikh in India are revered. As a woman in India, having a Sikh brother in a room, has an automatic response of being safe. They are synonymous with brave, honour bound and honest with deep sense of national pride and service towards humanity. They command respect in our heart for all that they have sacrificed for our country. My family has served in indian military and through them have known many punjabi uncles and brothers who stand guard for protecting our freedom.

5:16 "A unique flavour of political violence had come to Canada ... that the majority of Canadians were indifferent to." Wonderfully put. 👏

I'm an Indian immigrant to Canada, and this is the best, most well informed analysis I've seen in almost all of Canadian media, mainstream or otherwise. Kudos.

Sympathy for Khalistani among Sikh Canadian politician is something new though.
There used to be politician like former BC Premier Ujjal Dosanjh and Dave Hayer who used to discourage Khalistan, but they were threatened by Khalistani and Hayer father was even assainated by them and premier of British Columbia beaten almost to death.

Nexus of Drug and organised crime had made these older politician out of politics and new breed of Sikh politician came out to be sympathetic to these extremists causes
