Vacillating, intriguing, and tragic; if I were to ascribe three words to the life of Giordano Bruno it would undoubtedly be these. I suspect many know of this stories fiery denouement, but if you are interesting in discovering how Giordano Bruno, searching and wondering, transformed from priest to philosophical martyr for free speech and tolerance of differences then give me 10 minutes of your time.

If you enjoyed this video and are interesting in learning more about history’s greatest philosophic minds and ideas consider subscribing to the channel. Here my goal is to bring philosophy to whoever may be seeking it by illuminating the individuals who, by the prestidigitation of their thought, changed the world.

Bruno's joke about Solomon was to use the church's own logic against them. It was demonstration of questioning authority with authority's own logic. In doing so, he highlighted authority's own hypocrisy. Authority's reaction to his proof of it's hypocrisy demonstrates their desire for power and not the truth.

One of my great heroes. Makes me so sad each time I think of his fate. When I learned of this as a Catholic youth, it turned me against the RC church. For ever!

Absolute savage dedication to his own truth. Have to admire that.

Wha... what a guy! Kudos to Giordano Bruno and thank you Mr. Philosophy for taking the time to come up with this sort of content. I actually learned something today.

Every time I'm in Rome I stop in Campo de Fiori to pay homage to the man.

Giordano Bruno è il mio eroe
per il suo contributo all’evoluzione umana
opponendosi alla crudele e cruenta
ottusità dello strapotere clericale.

A courageous man not afraid to speak his truth and not blindly follow the catholic churches fear and damnation ideology. I am from Australia and found out about him while reading about what happened to the Adyar Bookshop in Sydney which was opened by The Theosophical Society and..they also started Sydney's radio station 2GB and the GB came from his name Giordano Bruno..fascinating! The bookstore closed in 2012. It was a favourite of mine.

Inspiring that a brilliant person with such natural intelligence and curiosity would come to understand the cosmos. Depressing that he would be killed by the dullest and most dogmatic amongst us.

I am a Catholic, I studied personally ancient religion, philosophy, hermetic occult, and when I watch the life of Giordano Bruno I felt goosebumps his ideology of seeking of the truth through spiritual to science means.

Very good video, you stuck to the known historical facts and resisted the myths that surround Giordano Brunos life and death - being the martyr for science.

When I hear people getting upset about reclassifying Pluto, I like to refer them to Giordano Bruno, who was sentenced to death in part for declaring that our sun was a star, like the thousands of other stars in the sky, but closer. Unlike religious dogma, science is and must be willing to shift its perspective. It's not meant to insult anyone or anything; it is merely an attempt to reveal truth. Science that is unable to change inevitably becomes dogma.

thoroughly appreciate this video. By chance I've been to Italy and stayed IN the exact square where he was murdered. but i didnt kno who he was- my mom chose the area because it was hip! and yet i'm an angsty atheist who is tiredof the church . he's become a hero to me and i appreciate the upload and thorough information

I stayed in Rome in november. Thirs floor. Guess who was looking straight at me when I opened my window to look at the Campo de Fiori. I had no idea. Then yesterday I was recomended Bruno by Chatgpt, and watching this video I just realised who i was looking at. I was so drawn in by the statue. A very powerful legacy that transcended through the statue. Please check it out when in Rome.
