Uganda landfill collapse: Recovery teams continue the search for bodies

Recovery teams are continuing to search for bodies - after a landfill collapsed in Uganda.
At least eighteen people have been killed.
People living near the Kiteezi garbage disposal site say the disaster -- may have been triggered by torrential rains.

Why did the government allow houses to be built on a landfill??.. that's inhumane within itself, the government should have been closed it down as a dwelling place

So much systemic failure has to take place for this situation to be possible.

Someone allowed people to live in the path of a disaster, after those people had expressed their anxiety about it in the past, their concerns were dismissed.

Someone allowed a terrible landfill to be made too close to a city.

That's to say nothing of the excessive amount of waste produced in the global economy.

I always complain about poor waste management in Uganda. Most towns are filled with waste and it's like those in authority Are un bothered.

Elsewhere, innocent people are succumbing to missles, bombs, and gunshots but in my home country, it is decomposed garbage. What's heartbreaking is that many people including the residents of this area and experts advised the gov't that this dumping site would be a hazard. But given that we have no good governance in Uganda, we end up losing lives through senseless catastrophes that are completely avoidable. It's a pity! May Allah save us from such poor leadership.
