It was an honor to receive a GMA Dove Award this year for “Worship Album the Year.” If I’m being honest, in the past I’ve gone through my own internal struggles over receiving awards for writing and singing songs about Jesus. It’s just never been the goal for me. Truly. But in this moment, standing there with my friends and brothers who helped me create an album that holds deep meaning for me during a tough 2020 year. Looking at so many friends and music making family sitting in the room. With thoughts and memories of youth group worship nights, mission trips, my precious family and incredible miracles God has done flashing through my mind. Knowing full well, better than anyone else, what a sinner I am and yet what an infinitely kind and gracious God He is that He allows me and empowers me to carry these songs… I was just overwhelmed. Had to hold back tears. Not because of the award itself, but because it was almost like this tangible thing I could hold and see that signified God’s great grace and faithfulness in my life. So I want to say thanks so much for this GMA Dove Awards! I’m so thankful for how you champion and support all of us artists making Jesus music! It will forever be a reminder to me of God’s grace. Thanks to all you crazy talented people who helped me create “Hymn Of Heaven.” It will always be a hugely meaningful album to me. Thanks to my wife Mallory Wickham for dealing with my crazy obsession over getting these songs as right as I can make them. Thanks to ALL OF YOU who have made any of these songs your own and let them be a part of your lives, homes, morning commutes, church communities, small groups, etc. What a complete privilege, joy and honor. Let’s sing some new ones in 2023 ok?! New music is on its way.
