You can’t blame the Arch coffee cup. It runs on Java. :)

I use gpu passthrough for gaming.

You dont necassarily have to buy a second gpu for passthrough. If you have integrated graphics, then use that as the host gpu and the graphics card for passthrough.

"Distributions don't matter" - If you are an Advanced user, you can hop on anything and make it your own. If you are NEW, it could mean the difference between LOVING Linux and absolutely HATING it. Distro's do come and go, my Linux Mint will be here long after Ubuntu is gone and I don't see that happening anytime soon. Nothing wrong with being an Arch fan boy, just own up to it. ))

Q: How can you tell someone uses Arch Linux? A: Just wait, they'll tell you

I think people ask you that question is because you run Arch-based systems and then the cup there says it all. So it really is a valid question to ask.
Anyway, my day is complete, got to watch another DT video. Thanks for all your content and oh I love this question/answer videos you do. Good stuff.

Just switched to Linux. I'm running Arch (BTW) with custom patched DWM. It's great and I love it. I still have to open config.h occasionally when I forget keybinds but overall it just works once you get it configured right.

DT - i am distro agnostic. Derek Taylor transcended to next Linux user.
And at the end of the video, the Btw I use Arch joke was the finest quality trolling.
Although for sure I am not sure that is the case or intended so, but such I saw things.
Listened on my way to work, just because DT audio is so comfortable and DT's voice is just fine as a virtual Linux companion teaching you things.

I got tired of the constant updating on my EndeavorOS and returned to CentOS 6.10 on my trusty Thinkpad W510. My wife is still running it strictly for Zoom with her friends on her Thinkpad T400 running EndeavorOS.

6:45 since its not possible to change package managers, would it be possible to change it before system install, but i assume it would have to be in the installer or seperate ISO's entirely, like in the installer it could give an option to use pacman or apt, probably seperate ISO because how would you install the base packages for every package manager on one ISO. But the question i have then is, CAN debian use the pacman package manager, and arch use apt, because if you CAN, and install a package, you probably could put the pacman package manager into a debian iso and install from there using entirely pacman, or whatever package manager. Edit, 7:25 i guess i never thought about how the packages were configured and designed for other operating systems, so even with the package manager the packages probably wouldnt work.

Ever since I saw his Fish shell video, I am loving it since it didn't take time to load in terminal like ZSH shell.
A little bumped out when he shows the problem-related to Fish shell.
Love from Nepal.

On Gentoo you can add basically any package manager you want. Just one of the many reasons I switched to Genoo from Arch: even more choice.

DT, you mentioned package installation of Debian or Red Hat software. I don't know if it is still an option, but there used to be the alien package installer on ArchLinux that allowed for installing packaged software from other distros. I have just recently returned to using Arch from Debian (going with a minimal install gave new life to an old computer & made my newer computer lightning fast ;). I've been using various distros since the late 90's with Corel Linux & the early Fedora Core, and linux just keeps getting better, while Windows keeps getting more bloated & slow. Love your channel!

The way I am doing things is I use kitty as my terminal. Kitty's shell is zellij muxer and zellig's shell is setup to be fish.

new linux user here, slowly transitioning to linux.
i choose arch because it's a minimal install.
i've been using windows for 20 years (since i'm 10 years old) so habits won't go away.
windows 7 is my home, tho finding compatible hardware will be an issue in year 2030.
90% of my apps (main production machine) works in windows xp ("MicroXP") which is very light in a VM.
for autodesk maya & latest version of vst plugins x64 architecture is required.
ideally windows 7 will be virtualized flawlessly in the future, so that it won't make any difference if it's running from a virtual machine or real hardware (ofc without internet connection, for security concern). i tend to stick with old version of softwares, because i have old hardware (2015) so it make sense. like i've been using the same build of sony vegas / photoshop, since 2010.
VM + wine seems the way to survive for me in linux (windows 10 being out of the question).
thanks for having this youtube channel, it's helpful
