I've looked at these star pickets over the years and wondered what I could make from them and as I needed to make some shop stools, I thought they'd make interesting legs.

As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

I know I'm three years too late to the video, but I like that you left the holes - part of the charm is that they are recognisable as modified star-pickets, it wouldn't be the same without them!

They look cool Neil. All you need now is a drinks bar lol. Great video mate 👍🏻👍🏻

I would definitely have those in my house. Leaving the holes was a great idea!

good to see how your workshop & processes have evolved over the years

Love the look! Since you asked, I think that I would have welded the holes. Really cool.

Definitely leave the holes. It shows their heritage and your creativity and skill awesome work. Maybe as an extra challenge upholster them with a discarded couch. Something new and different.

Great work Neil, fantastic repurposing idea. When you’re seating on a stool you always want to find the footrest by just lifting your foot, so I would have put the footrest all around. The leg mounting jig is a marvel. The seat looks great, but I would hollow down the top a bit to better accommodate the rear. 100% leave the holes on the legs!

Great work and, as always, really creative use of left-overs and rusty junk.

Nice turn out on those, I'm partial to rust as a patina as long as its not on my work tools.

Turned out great. Wouldn't be too difficult of a project to make more of them to sell if you wanted to since you already have all the jigs.

Awesome! It might have looked cool if you painted left the light color paint on the inner part of the rails and foot rest, but painted the outer part green.

"Make it Extreme" Green? Looks great, I would have maybe used the holes on the internal rib to thread a ring through that doubled as foot rest and leg support. That way, there would be a foot rest on all sides

FWIW, I would have filled the leg holes with weld, if only to avoid the half circles snagging pants hems or leg hairs. Plus, I think it would look cleaner and less 'haphazard' (some holes are full circles; some, half; some, less). Cool project, though!

Good color, reminds me of the stools in metal and wood shop back in high school

Keep the holes, it gives a story to the origins of the steel. Snd it's part of the stools history

It would have greatly increased the complexity of the design, but it would be nice if these had adjustable height.
Well done.

Nice job. I think I would have added swivel plates but I guess that would ruin the scrape wood challenge part.

The metal could get a bronze look by heating the metal and then paint it with linseed oil. Maybe something to try the next time.
