Chelsea sat down with real NYC women to talk about their financial realities, habits, and secrets, to learn all about the ways they do money. What she found was that while NYC women may have their own challenges in terms of higher costs of living and tighter job markets, ultimately many of our financial struggles are the same, and we can all learn from one another.

I was in America for a holiday this year and we were having breakfast in iHop, there was one lady working as a waitress, she was in her late 60s or even in her 70s, it broke my heart to see that. I admire you guys that you manage to live and get by without a social system and support if you get sick or something happens. You guys rock! P.S. I am wondering where does all this taxes that US citizens pay go? America is huuuge and with a big population, with the amount that you guys pay you should at least have free healthcare, payed sick days and maternity leave!

I wish my parents were have taught me that spending money isn't wrong. Spending money on certain things at certain times could be wrong but in general you have to spend money and its important to spend it wisely and put some in savings. They taught me that saving was very important but when i realized that I have to spend money sometimes I put their teachings out of my head and just thought they were WRONG. But now that I understand that both saving and spending are important I have found a balance but I am still learning

LOVE this!!! I’m a hoarder who’s trying to become debt-free. I saw a post that said the average American household contains 300, 000 items inside of it. So if I’m a hoarder would I have double & have 600, 000 items?!! What if I sold everything I owed for a $1...would I have a half of million dollars?! This is just a thought I had and thinking of selling all my hoarded items to pay off debt & grow my savings 💚 Watching financial videos like this really help me in my debt-free journey!!

My parents taught me about debt through how much they stressed about their own... It's definitely a priority!

No spend days are great! I do 1 or 2 a week as I always bring lunch from home and have monthly travel passes and a gym membership

I recently starting repairing things; everything from shoes to my car. I use to always buy new. I think this saves me money and it helps with not being so wasteful. IMO

"Hardest part of saving is learning how to prioritize" - could not have said it better! If people actually look where theyre spending they'd realize how many things they purchased that they don't find valuable in the future.

This was a truly helpful and relatable video! I would suggest doing it again with 30 and 40 y/o to see what they have learned and offer knowledgeable advice. Thanks for this 👍🏾

“Ain’t that the truth”
I feel that😭😭😭😭 I have a French friend who has, at 24, traveled to every continent and is almost done with a master’s degree in physics because he has the benefit of free education and medical care (as far as I understand about his situation).

I almost can’t even begin to wrap my brain around that because like Elana and Chelsea I grew up with those two big “costs” in life always at the forefront of my mind. Pretty cool for him, he has the best stories and pictures from his travels

The coupon lady is my favorite! She definitely made up for over spending at a private college with $24, 000 in coupons. Loving your channel from The Bahamas!

I wish Canada had a coupon deal like the US. Most coupons over here you can only use one per purchase. So at most you might save a buck or two.

I wish I wasn't spoilt so much. My parents are well off and paid for everything including my uni fees, but after I moved out it was a steep slope to learn the world of finance. TFD has been such a huge help

_The smallest thing I've learned that's helped the most_ has been to not buy things I don't absolutely need. I'm pretty sure Chelsea has talked about this a bit :)

Clothing is my passion and is super important to me. When I'm at a store, I want to buy just about EVERYTHING I SEE.

What I have to do with things I want, like new boots for instance, is wait a few months until I know I want them so badly that they basically become a "need." I also hunt for the most affordable options during that waiting time. This helps me tremendously with impulse buying, and keeps me from spending too much on things I won't wear.

When I do need to get that impulse buying fulfillment (because I personally do sometimes, I have adhd lmao) I'll do things like spend 10 bucks at the thrift store, or buy a couple of dollar items on Ebay. That way I'm getting quite a few items for very little, and it takes care of that impulsive itch :)
