I've been working professionally with PS since 1991-92. There have been many "game changing" innovations over the decades such as content aware (among others) however adding this ability to the PS UI pretty much tops everything else. What they are showing here is pure cherry picked spin because in my real world tests the results are certainly far from perfect ( but extremely fun ). Some subjects it works very well and others are a hot mess but considering it's in its infancy 50/50+/- success rate isn't bad at all. The "expand" feature is pretty sweet. In my tests I have taken numerous "portrait" orientations and made them into "landscape"s. It's pretty amazing!

The one drawback/caveat is that I "heard" is": Adobe will charge for this feature beyond a certain base amount of "credits". For me that's a bona-fied insult to all the (professionals) who made Adobe what it is today. We're already paying a premium to subscribe to CC and now they want to "double tax" us? Adobe has done some pretty questionable and reprehensible things over the decades but (again) this is right up there at the top. I hope this time around enough people will be outraged at the money grab enough to complain and make Adobe include it with their MANDATORY subscriptions. If not I'm sure Midjourney, DAll-E or Stable Diffusion will include this feature in the (very) near future. PS. Midjourney prompts render far superior results than Firefly. Night vs Day

Firefly Beta is truly amazing. I’m a Photoshop dabbler, but took a photo of son and his wife in Ireland, knocked out background; superimposed on landscape of Gap of Dunloe; then the fun began. Added sheep. Adult male here, two together over there. Kept swapping in generative AI until shadows going in correct orientation. Added “baby lambs”. Extended the foreground: firstly just entered “grass” and got residential lawn. Then entered “scrub growth, Irish Bog”. Bam. Perfect. Blended all the edges remarkably well, color, saturation, content density. All amazing. It even snatched a piece of a white shoe and jeans over ankle to blend at her foot that was previously cropped poorly (on close inspection, it was a boot in snow, but hey it visually receded in the grass). Super impressive. Elapsed time 5 minutes to pick from images offered.

That's a pretty good tip. I have been playing with the generative fill and I also felt that the results are based on how you make your selection. Thanks for the info.

I have the correct version and up to date and the generative fill is just grayed out. I have reinstalled the app to see if it made any difference and still unavailable to select.

Cute idea. Will the photographer who photographed the spaghetti be compensated by Adobe for the use of their original work? This needs to be addressed by Adobe BEFORE this feature comes out of Beta! (If the AI can find the image, it surely should be able to trace its ownership.)

Russell, I hope Adobe will address this important issue. It's not just about the feature, which I agree is amazing, but about compensation of the use of another photographer's creative property.
