UTBDR Utah Backcountry Discovery Route Documentary Trailer

There is just nothing else quite like Utah and this 871-mile route will take riders to some unforgettable places. Beginning in Mexican Hat, UT and ending in Garden City, UT the route includes iconic places including Valley of the Gods, Moab, the Abajo and La Sal mountains, Onion Creek, 9 Mile Canyon and the Wasatch Mountains. Utah is unpredictable with mud that is impassable when wet and storms that can wash out roads at anytime. Deep sand challenges riders in places, and a few expert-only options provide excitement for those that seek adrenaline.

Best time of year: May/June and September/October. Extremely hot conditions and the monsoon season occur in July and August making it a difficult time of year to ride the UTBDR.

Now, you need to do the Utah 1000 circle ride. Ogden to Nevada on the transcontinental railroad. South to St. George along the Nevada border, east to Monticello, passing Lake Powell on the way. North to Moab, then onto Vernal along the Colorado border. To Evanston Wyoming thru the Uintah mountains, onto Bear Lake, then return to Ogden. See every landscape that Utah has to show you.

First time I saw this video it was brand new. 8 years later I’ve seen it at least a dozen times and I head out on the UTBDR for my 3rd time tomorrow. Great route.

Can't wait to ride Utah again. This video is amazing motivation to get back there.

A fixed up early 1990's Suzuki DR350 is the ideal bike for this. these bikes are ridiculously big. Epic for highway usage but worthless in any off-road Moto conditions, and face it your'e going to want to Moto.

Looks great! Rode WABDR 3 years ago on an XR650R, our own Oregon version (V-Strom didn't work out so well for me), and doing UTBDR in 2014 on a Husqvarna TR650.

Awesome video!  Well done!  I live in NM and ride my GS here a lot and also in CO.  Will be doing the COBDR in 3 months and am itching to do the UTBDR.

What month of the year was this run? We're doing COBDR this year, but UTBDR in 2019. We're in Tacomas/Jeeps rather than bikes and I love the muddiness of the trip in this video and would like to match it with our trip time.

I have been waiting for this post since I heard you guys were going to do the route. I plan on doing this route in 3 to 4 years with my family in my jeep JK 4door. I have to wait until my 1 year old is a little older. I will be coming from Maryland, so it will be a great trip. Been to Moab, but really want ot see the entire state. Thanks guys for laying out the route. Q: what is the distance to gas stations as I can only go about 200 miles with a full tank.

Is this film available for purchase or rental on any video streaming services?

Great fun. Rode it twice and certainly enjoyed the routes.
For future vids, it’s not necessary to stage the entire group bunched up all standing on pegs like some Touratech catalog. 😏 You get my drift. It’s fine to show it how it really is.
Thanks.

@halfthrottle They are, compared to a dirt bike. But they can carry what you need for camping and stuff. They're more capable than you'd think (although nowhere near what you can do on a 250), but you really don't want to dump one. Because you have to lift it up!

My Husky 310 weighs about 245lbs wet. My F800GS outfitted for trips like this, but not loaded up with gear weighs about 475lbs. So about twice as heavy. And the KTM990, Super Tenere and R1200GS/GSA are heavier than the F800GS.

I guess I'm going to have to buy some klim gear for this trip. Also will need to find a box the size of an old 27"rca xl 100 television for my rear rack

Looks like it would be a fun ride on a plated dirt bike, (something in the sub 300 lb range would be good). Why did everyone on this trip choose such heavy bikes?

Sorry guys, what kind of camcoreder have you used to tape this report?
Thanks for reply Mira from Czech Republic

excuse me for being a noob here. but why would you want to take those big bikes on trips like this?

i would think you want a lighter biker some 650 at most.
