A Conversation with USAID Leaders
Over six decades ago, the US Congress enacted the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, which created USAID and declared that "a principal objective of the foreign policy of the United States is the encouragement and sustained support of the people of developing countries in their efforts to acquire the knowledge and resources essential to development and to build the economic, political, and social institutions which will improve the quality of their lives."
Today, as many parts of the world struggle with innumerable crises of different nature and graveness, the call to action articulated in the Foreign Policy Act of 1961 becomes even more relevant and important. We will hear from key USAID leaders on how they are responding to this call to action and learn about the Agency's efforts to spark hope for resilience, recovery, and growth.
Opening Remarks
Dennis Vega, Chief of Staff, USAID
Speakers
Matthew Nims, Deputy Assistant to the Administrator, Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, USAID
Sheryl Stumbras, Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator, Inclusive Growth, Partnerships, and Innovation Bureau, USAID
Michele Sumilas, Assistant to the Administrator, Bureau for Planning, Learning and Resource Management, USAID
Moderator
Wade Warren, SID-US Board Chair & Chief Strategy Officer for International Development, Deloitte
The winner(s) of the Innovation Competition will also be announced during this session.
