So this is what prevents my kid from getting to the juicy parts.:the first step, the plan. If she can’t envision the plan in detail she won’t move to the next step. She ends up being so frustrated over the missing pieces that she forgets to integrate the pieces she does have. She usually ends up with little time to focus on the meat of the work and at this point she has usually lost all motivation and interest in the project and completing it is done under much duress and minimal effort. How do you teach how to go about making a good plan?

I like this strategy, but it breaks down in graduate school. Papers overlap and deadlines are too tight.
