I think the "I won't fail this time" was Jayce's guilt over not destroying the hexcore when Viktor asked him to

So Jayce clearly saw/experienced the Future in the Arcane, a world where Viktor is the machine monster he is ingame and evil as fuck. And then he killed Viktor to prevent that from happening, which OBVIOUSLY made it happen.

The irony of it all is that jayce probably causes evil viktor, who survives to create the future he probably saw and tried to go back in time to stop, only causing a loop.
Viktor def survives or we wouldn’t have seen his monologue on why he went wrong here.

I think that Jayce's state of mind is tied of why we haven't seen Ekko and Heimendinger since their encounter with the Arcane. My guess is that the three of them got transported into the future (maybe because of Ekko's own power) and got to see Viktor without humanity, conquering the world to force his glorious evolution. Jayce is pulled back after quite some time, either by something happening in that future or present Viktor, who as godlike as he is, can't see what happened until it's too late. Whatever Jayce and the rest lived was bad enough that Jayce had 0 doubts about killing his best friend to stop it from happening.

Yet as Viktor said earlier, time is a paradox: By attempting to kill him to save the world from that future; in reality he killed his comunity and his humanity, causing the inevitable future where Viktor becomes a tyrant regarding humanity as "the problem" to be resolved by the glorious evolution.
