What is Segwit? Explained To A Child

SegWit is short for segregated witnesses and it is a proposal presented by the Bitcoin Core team. It comes in the form of a soft fork, a forward compatible upgrade that can work even if some users don’t update their software (without resulting in a chain split). It was released on the 0.13.1 version of Bitcoin Core client.

Thanks for the great video for simple minds like myself. I am still having trouble understanding though, how is taking data from 1 block and extending to 2 smaller blocks on same blockchain going to make it any better when the same blockchain is still having to process the data just same amount in 2 blocks instead of 1 ? What am i missing here ? Thanks for your help!!!

Hmm, , I have an restaurant, , here in EU (Croatia) is it feasible for me to allow my costumers to pay with Bitcoin or Ethereum, , or an other crypto-currency?? I am new to this, but I study computer science, , so I should not have problem understanding this.

The new block extension doesn't include the entire script. It includes only the signature part of all the transactions within that block which is also called the 'witness', hence, the segregated witness or segwit.

There's something I'm obviously not getting. Can some one help me out? What happens to the extended block? Is it not recorded on the blockchain? If it is, then the same amount of information would end up being recorded, so how does this help make the transaction faster ( save data )

Are they able to scale up the block size instead? As it grows it could become faster and cheaper to use
