Look at the innocence and happiness on old Ulrich's face at 0:58 - 0:59 . Such a pure expression. It breaks my heart so much that he had to die like that, all alone with the hope of Katharina coming to save him. 😭😭😭

Also at 1:09, look at how his shivering hands stop shaking once Kathatina touches him. 😭❤He did love her but failed to actually exhibit his love in reality. So tragic af.

This is such a powerful scene. I can only imagine how it must feel for him. Such an incredibly tragic ending. All these years later, I often think about this show, and these moments in particular.

Winfried Glatzeder, one of the most criminally underrated character actors of the former German Democratic Republic. Acting with him must have been such an honor for Jördis Triebel, also an incredible actress from a country that was.
