The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria is situated in North Africa. Its capital is Algiers. It is the largest African country, with an area of 2.3 million square kilometers. With 44 million people, it is the 9th most populous country in Africa.

Arabic and Berber are the official languages, while French is used for administrative and educational purposes. 99% of Algerians are Muslims, and 1% are Christians and Jews. Algeria is a member of OPEC & produces 1.1 million barrels of crude oil per day.

Algeria won the African Cup of Nations soccer championship twice, in 1990 and 2019. Famous Algerians include Alber Camu, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1957. The 1969 Algerian film Z won two Oscars.
