The British Empire was the greatest force for good Earth has ever seen.

All those scattered territories and no entire continents. The British would have been terrible at playing Risk.

It’s weird how fast Britain went from managing the biggest empire to a smallish country that can barely manage things like changes to a tv license fee

We should have more pride in what we achieved as a nation and who we are as people....

of all the countries that could have ruled the world, I think Britain was the safest bet.

"For better or for worse"
Well, I believe objectively it was definitely for better. I mean, there is a reason that by the 20th century the empire was **costing** more to rule than it was bringing in, improving 1/4 of the world isnt cheap. It was never really just taking, the British Empire was very giving to the lands it ruled (though its treatment of the people there depended on if they were loyal subjects or rebellious rioters, but that just seems par for the course really. I dont think the American Revolutionaries expected to be treated with kindness after July 4, 1776 lol).
I think this is a large reason why the Commonwealth of Nations system still works to this day.

Most of it was controlled at different times so i don't get when people exaggerate how big it was when it wasn't even that big

Remember, Australia was not settled by the British until after it had lost the American colonies, and New Zealand, India and Hong Kong weren't settled until the mid 1800s. So yes, the Empire was vast, but it gained and lost colonies as it went along. Today it's biggest colony is Bermuda, so it's lost quite a lot.

Can you imagine if Ghengis Khan was British?

The British empire being glorified is insane. The number of atrocities they committed in India is genuinely unthinkable.

More people lived under British rule than British in the U.K.

I'd say it was for the better. They spread civilization.

They use to say, "the sun never sets on the British Empire." Looking at it's expanse, that was true.

The civil service today is huge compared to the civil service used to run the Empire!

Well if all those countries didn’t want to be colonised they should have said something
