harborfraight may have a winner with the new Doyle vise but how dose it stack up against the vise that stole my hart?

Check underneath to see if the swivel base casting numbers match. I saw a wilton teardown that showed 101198 for the 6 1/2 inch and there was a Doyle vid that showed the underside and that number matched. 101198. It might be the same exact part shared across products.

I just got the 6 1/2 inch Doyle I love it so far. I’ve been doing a lot of beating on it and I have the two-year warranty so I’m definitely gonna be putting it through its paces and if it breaks I’ll just go get a new one and use the warranty. It’s amazing how much it looks like the craftsman.

I look forward to seeing an update on how this Doyle compares to the Craftsman.

I bought an as new in box Craftsman 391-5180 vise at a garage sale for $5 a few years ago - had no idea these things were that expensive.

Love to hear about it in the future and see how it handles

I bought the Craftsman professional vise right before they stopped selling them and it's been a super nice vise. I wanted a Wilton, but couldn't find a used one at a decent price, or the affordable ones were junk.

4" is the jaw width. 4.5" is the jaw opening.

Craftsman when the Craftsman name still meant something....

Any idea what company manufactured this vise?

Throw a caliper on them and move them close together, please. Curious now. I think you're onto something. The Doyle wasn't bolted down, slide it over a little. Closer is better when comparing, especially on camera. Several caliper measurements would have proven the same mold, at least very convincing. Please make another video if you still have them. I know this was 2 years ago. Thanks for sharing

Do a side by side teardown of the Doyle vs Wilton. I wonder if they are made in the same plant as both the Doyle and the Craftsman. Are the internal components actually identical? HF ended up sourcing the identical jack that Snap-on sells so it's possible their vise is the same as the wilton with some modifications. Both vises are sealed, both have a keyed slide to prevent twisting. HF is known to hunt down the manufacturers that the name brands use so they can work with them to produce nearly identical items. Obviously it makes sense to change the signature wilton bullet shaped rear-end. But I even noticed there is a pin going through at approximately the same location back there. Wiltons are not made in the USA anymore so I could see their factory partner also working with HF.

I bought mine for 125 with a discoount.
It replaced my 40 year old chinese one. Same size but the Doyle is heavier. It takes exactly twice as many turns to close my old Makes me wonder about Doyles clampling force.
The Doyle turns very smooth and the swivel is much nicer. I'm really liking it.
I wanted the that is too big for my bench.

Now that you've had it for a bit, do you still like it? I'm considering getting one.
