I cherish these videos so much. They're so insightful, especially with the BTS that shows how the sets were lit outside of the final frame.

I don't know if you can, but getting Deakins on a 20 minute episode would be so incredible. I'd pay to see how he does what he does.

Aspect ratios is something I am still getting used to, but I love the possibilities they bring with you. Lenses take on a different feel. 18mm because more attractive with a 2:35.9 ratio.

Very interesting. I always find framing 2.39:1 a bit awkward on a smaller monitor lol

Marvel Cinematic Universe films are predominantly 2.39:1 on all non-IMAX releases. By the time Doctor Strange came out, the MCU started having big sequences opened up to 1.90:1 for IMAX. Avengers: Infinity War & Avengers: Endgame were filmed with IMAX cameras and were opened up to 1.90:1 in IMAX theaters. Shang-Chi & Eternals were filmed in IMAX with IMAX-Certified ARRI Alexa LF & Alexa Mini LF cameras. The rest of Phase Four will use IMAX-Certified cameras for the upcoming slate of films.

Today 25 July 2019 Sky Italia is broadcasting "Bad times at the El Royale" cropped to 1.78:1 (16/9) instead of the correct one (2.39:1). This is so demeaning...

CinemaScope is a format and not lenses. Also every Marvel movie after Ant-Man had sequences shot in 1.9:1 for IMAX. Avengers 3 and 4 were entirely shot in 1.9:1 with scope in mind.

i'm confused. Let's take 1.7 and 2.4 aspect ratios. Let's say both are at 1600p. This means the 1.7 is 2845 wide and the 2.4 panel is 3840 wide. Their height is the same. Shouldn't that mean that the height of the image remains the same but the 2.4 panel gives you extra space to work with on the x axis? At least that's how PCs render games and graphical interfaces. The way you showed it was to just crop a big image based on the aspect ratios, not keeping the same height and changing the width. Why does it work like that?

Has a cinematographer ever watched a music video that has a superwide aspect ratio?
