Remember at 20 seeing it in the theater. They don't make movies like this anymore. They also don't have actors with the ability of Gene Hackman, who seemed to have perfect chemistry with everyone he was put with, and Denzel either.

I think he deliberately misstated those horses’ country of origin in their earlier conversation to test if Mr. Hunter would still stick to his guns and challenge him even in the middle of the impasse they had reached, and of course Mr. Hunter did just that.
