Collin County officer fired, arrested for allegedly smuggling phone into jail for murder suspect

A North Texas officer has been placed under arrest after bringing a cell phone into an inmate's cell, according to the Collin County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, a detention officer discovered a cell phone and charger in an inmate’s cell in the Collin County jail. Detention Officer Tyler Moody, an employee since October 2019, confessed to sheriff’s investigators that he brought the contraband into the jail and provided it to the inmate.

The sheriff's office released a video of Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner firing Moody. Initially, Skinner asked Moody if he was offering his resignation. Then, he clarified that wouldn't be necessary.

"Let me just make it easy," Skinner said. "You're fired. You're no longer an employee here."

corrections officers do all kinds of egregious things to the inmates, but just know that bringing in cell phones..THAT'S where they draw the line

Pay your guards more. It doesn't make what he did right however if money wasn't issue and he's working for money then he obviously isn't making enough to where he would compromise his position and risk being put in prison. You must pay your guards more.

lil backstory to this. moody brought in the phone for my hb bando. bando had said phone for a week until one of the CO's did a random cell search and found the phone. bro paid $1500 for the phone & only had it for a WEEK. there was more than just a phone that moody brought in but ill let yalls imagination figure out what all it was. also was doing a $25 deal where he'd get you a big mac meal & slide it into the cell.

Prisoners have too many privileges to begin with. Sadly, this jailer made a very bad choice, by propagating the intent to commit even more felonies. I think tax payers need a break, and prisons should look more like punishment instead of a vacation.
