Sound travels in waves | The Doppler Effect. #shorts

Показать описание
The Doppler Effect is like when an ambulance or a police car goes by with its sirens on. The sound of the siren gets higher and louder as it comes closer to you, and then it gets lower and quieter as it goes farther away.

This happens because sound travels in waves, just like ripples in a pond when you throw a stone. When something is moving towards you, it pushes the sound waves together, making them sound higher and louder. But when it's moving away, it stretches the waves out, making them sound lower and quieter. Isn't physics amazing?

I just read the channel description and I didn’t realize that a local college was leading internationally in physics and more. Crazy.

I wanna go here because of the teachers 😢

I love this concept! One correction, the tuning fork at the start was a C5 with some microtones, not an F. It’s not a huge deal though, it just could affect the accuracy of your hertz measure!

These teachers make sure that we believe Science is a really cool subject. I love Science. ❤

The Field Training Officer who trained me outside of the police academy made me attend his Radar Class on how to calibrate the accuracy of the radars inside the cars. If I remember correctly you would take the tuning fork and tap it on the outside part of the windshield that would sit right in front of the radar and the radar detects the pitch needed for calibration.

He said the newer ones are self-tuning but if you ever had to go to court for issuing a speeding ticket then you could make your case by showing (on your dash cam) that you calibrated your radar correctly.

He had a carrying case that he kept in his car with these tuning forks.
It was so cool!

You can also kind of think of it as water ripples.

If you poke the water in a straight line going right, you'll see that more waves go right than left.

The right ones are higher in pitch because more waves = higher sound, while the left ones are a bit lower pitched because less waves = lower sound.

But what do I know, I ain't a physicist.

Important point ; A ball moving in a circular path doesn't show Doppler effect to a person sitting in the centre of the circular path because the relative motion of the revolving ball isn't changing with respect to the person sitting in the middle

Therefore we would be able to gain a 2nd freq relative to the source by simply osculating relative position of the source at a harmonic frequency to the receiver.
