Discovering London's Telephone Booths - They Actually Work!

While visiting London from the US, Blair's mom is shocked to find a working telephone booth. It was a funny exchange and a great experience.

It's actually now been converted to a 'Time Machine' ...this lady was one click away from being whisked to London, 1979. If she'd pressed those buttons....woah, she'd have found herself in England as it was 44 years ago!! 😆 ....right in the heart of Oxford Street!!

Yup I remember ‘reverse calling’ parents from one of these. Now we have a ‘library’ one in my village but it doesn’t get used sadly.

Ofcom has protected about 5, 000 public telephones to stop BT from decommissioning them, "a phone box will be protected from removal if one of four criteria apply: its location is not covered by all four main mobile networks; it is located at an accident or suicide hotspot; more than 52 calls have been made from it over the past 12 months; or exceptional circumstances mean there is a need for a public call box."

Here’s an interesting fact the telephone boxes where designed by an architect named ‘Giles Gilbert Scott’ and he designed the beautiful Liverpool Cathedral and the Battersea Power Station in London. Liverpool is worth exploring which the home town of the Beatles. 👍

They are very rare now but some are in Londons parliament Square because the tourists love to have photos taken with them.
