Nice work. A successful, persistent search. My vehicle tinkering days are over but I still find it fascinating and I really enjoy seeing others bring 'motating' things back to life. You are one of my faves.

I just found my spring was broken ! New one ordered that saved me so much time and not having to go to a shop
I think I can just replace my spring and might be ok on adjustment. But I know what to look for now

The camshaft or the engine need to be in any specific position like TDC or something to do this procedure? I noticed the exact thing you said the piece of metal with the dot doesn't not move its stock like something doesn't let it move i though could be because of what I said above. I will wait for your answer and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Matt, Great video, good clear step-by-step directions. The only thing I couldn't follow was, where is the shaft with the dimple in it. I'm certain I could locate it once inside the engine.
Anyhow, again GREAT video. By the way that's called an Acorn nut.

Hello, I have a John Deere 455 that used to be my dads and he passed a couple of years ago. I have since been trying to keep up with maintaining their property and the 455 has been giving me issues and has runaway on me before (I got it to die thankfully). I believe that the governor is stuck in this. I had just replaced the fuel filter, opened up the injection pump rack and freed up two stuck delivery valves, and cleaned up the injectors. This all helped and it fired off right away after bleeding the lines at the injectors and it immediately ran away. Am I on the right track in thinking the governor is stuck / something along those lines? Any tips, or help would be great as there is no how to that I can find on the governor for this engine. It is a Yammer 3 cylinder in-line, model number 3TNA72UJ3. Again, any help, pointers or tips are greatly appreciated as I have limited time that I am even able to get away to work on it, let alone try to keep up with the property. .. also, how likely is it that there was any damage done when it ran away and what would possibly have been damaged? Piston rings, valves, etc..?

What if you already tried to take the pump off? I unscrewed the bolts, and it wouldn't come off, so I pushed it back in. Now, I get no fuel after priming everything ahead of it. Am I screwed and if so, what do I need to do?

rebuilding my john deere 850. govenor looks exactly like yours. i kind of forcefully removed the timing cover to get crankshaft out. now that i need to reinstall timing cover i cannot find enough information on installing counterweight bracket and adjustment screw back on. first time it looked right but i ended up breaking the adjusting screw when it fired it up. have you had timing cover off or seen a video of it being done

Matt, I have the same tractor as you have. My dilemma is there isn't a divot on the shaft that the governor is connected to. Any ideas on what to do? My problem was I could not rev the engine any more than 1000 rpm's or it would run away on me. I would put it in gear and put the brake, push the lever to kill the engine and pop the clutch to kill the engine. So my research led me to maybe think the governor might be the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I follow you with the two access panels and disconnecting the spring and all. But where were you looking to see the rod with the DOT? Is there another access panel down low I'm trying to follow you.
Do I have to have the oil pan off?

Hey Matt. I have a Yanmar 2610D tractor and the injector pump went bad, I purchased a rebuilt one but now I am having trouble getting the old one out. The slide pin inside will not let the pin move so I can pull the pump out. This is my first time on this tractor so any tips will help. Thanks. like your video easy to follow.
