Why people LEAVE McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Deloitte et al. #consulting #MBB #McKinsey #caseinterview
Hi, I'm Kris, Ex Delloite consultant, sharing career advice. So what are the reasons why people actually leave consulting? There are three in my experience.
Number one is the most important one, and that is a lack of operational experience. Some consultants, they don't realize it until they leave consulting and then they are shocked that it is actually a huge disadvantage for them. But if you want to go into consulting, keep in mind that you will likely not get enough operational experience.
Number two is, of course, long working hours that often lead to burnout, to bad relationships with your family, your spouse, your children.
And number three is seeking better compensation and faster career progression or better opportunities for career progression. When you go into consulting initially at junior levels, when you are analyst, associate and so on, there's actually relatively quick progression if you're doing a good job, but then as you're becoming more senior, often you can get better career opportunities at more senior levels outside of consulting.
