Although I would say, pretty amazing how she gets those off key top notes whilst gargling Listerine.

Let's presume as a fact that Mme Monastyrskay was quite good 10-15 years ago in spinto roles, but now her current vocal condition in the dramatic repertoire doesn't deserve Met's ambitious acclaim. And honestly it has nothing to do with politics.

watching almost the same clip from various sopranos at the Met over the recent years..not sure what to think. They range from shriek to wobble and from wooden to looking deranged

Les mises en scène du Maestro Zeffirelli sont d'une beauté époustouflante !

Is it too much asking for a singer that can hold a note without a vibrato so heavy that it becomes a slow trill ?

I have watched the full performance live and have to honestly say, even though I like her, generally, I have never seen someone so ill at ease on a stage. It looked like she constantly feared she was going to step on the dress and fall down, and not to mention the absolute contempt she clearly had for the blocking, which made her seem stilted and wooden, clumsy even at times. I have to say the voice is glorious live and travels well over the orchestra and chorus. There is something there that gets distorted when microphones get involved. All in all mixed feelings, especially compared to the vocal triumph of Sondra Radvanovsky in the concert excerpt of the same last week.

IMHO, the vocal requirements of the role are beyond her.

This role really requires a dramatic soprano with some steady steel in the tone. Not a common thing, honestly. Marton, Dimitrova, and Nilsson were all great Turandots. IMO, Netrebko wouldn't have been better than her replacement. (I feel she is really a full lyric with maybe a dash of spinto.) Monastyrska has been fantastic in other dramatic roles, I don't think this role is a good fit for her. My bets are on Radvanovsky, she has what it takes.

Are there no more good Turandots? Seriously, what is happening in this world? If this is the trend, Turandot the opera will need to be retired from the classical repertoire indefinitely. Please, please bring back the vocal techniques that enabled singers to handle this role!

She sounds better here than the dress rehearsal but you can tell she’s pulling out all the stops for this role whereas Nilsson, Jones and Borkh had hidden reserves in their voices and didn’t need to use all their resources to make it work. For the sake of her vocal health, I hope she doesn’t make it a regular in her repertoire.

She's normally great, but she's really flat Met has a tendency of filming dress rehearsals and uploading the clips where the star singers aren't at their best LoL

We’ve seen this monumental beautiful production in the house many times.

I’ve seen almost everyone the Met has put in this extravaganza. For decibels, no one could top Gwyneth Jones, although she had intonation issues. But honestly, no one sounds good in this section of the aria — it’s just a screamfest. For late-Puccini, Trittico and Fanciulla are far superior pieces.

What a howling. This is not singing at all.

Horrible screaming. Doesn't do any good for the Met's reputation.

Horrible out of tune? Wobble wobble wobble. worst I heard so far. Opera is a disgrace today. I’ve seen better amateur singers. Stick with Birgit Nilsson the best. Also Dimitrova! This lady whether Russian Ukrainian Chinese etc. is the worst I ever heard despite having the whole production 🎙 🎙 mic up 🎤
This is not opera at all.

Met hit the bottom - first Netrebko and now this? Ridiculous.

I have never heard of this soprano before. Must be new to the met. Honestly, she is kinda sound over toned about to pull a Anna Netrbko
