The ESPN FC crew talk about the decisions in Real Madrid’s win over Valencia in LaLiga, what calls were right and wrong and the downfalls of VAR. Shaka Hislop and Craig Burley go back-and-forth about the standards of refereeing and whether Ferland Mendy should’ve been shown a red card.

Lmao Shaka doesn’t even know what team he’s talking about. It’s Madrid vs Valencia and he says Villarreal.

Real Madrid got 2 penalties this season and the calls go their way absolutely nonsense

La Liga 2020-21 penalties awarded:

10 - Valencia (8 scored)
8 - Barcelona (4 scored)
3 - Real Madrid (3 scored)

La Liga 2021-22 penalties awarded:
6 - Valencia (5 scored)
5 - Barcelona (4 scored)
2 - Real Madrid (2 scored)

And these Barcelona fans posing as pundits try to say that referees are biased towards us? From the Clasico on 24 October 2020 to the game against Cadiz on 21 April 2021, we did not receive a single penalty... and in the entire calendar year of 2021 we only received 2 penalties in La Liga (21 April 2021 vs Cadiz and 12 September 2021 vs Celta Vigo).

Even Valencia's official Twitter account tweeted something about a robbery, before Gerard Pique chimed in with his own childish opinion on the subject, conveniently ignoring how he himself should've been sent off in Barcelona's 1-1 draw against Granada before our game even happened.

Ever since we were CORRECTLY awarded 5 penalties in the 11 La Liga games in the post COVID-19 minibreak end to the 2019-20 La Liga season, Barcelona and other La Liga teams have cried constantly about referee help, which might be why referees categorically refuse to award us penalties ever since, which is ironic considering those other teams are all now benefiting from penalties while also trying to say that referees help us and only us.

Edit: To the Barcelona clown who replied to this comment, your opinion is automatically irrelevant. We had more than 10 legitimate penalty calls not awarded in that timeframe over the past season and a half.

As a Madrid fan I can add that this season we got AT LEAST as many bad decisions against us as for us.. including penalties and such.. But I see the hate is real from that Luis guy :))

1.The new rules or instructions this year tells refrees to notgive red cards when giving penalties, since a penalty is a hard decison by itself. (unless someone blocks the ball with hand from the goal's line, or if one gets tackled while the goal is empty) The double jeopardy rule was changed.
2. Real madrid is the team with least penalties in la liga.
3. Real madrid probably have more red cards than any other team this season or historically. (ramos, pepe, casemiro, ....)
4. There was a penalty for Real Madrid, after Valencia's defender blocked the ball with his hand.
5. In the last game, against Getafe, Marcelo was pulled almost exactly like Valencia's player was, and we didn't get the penalty.
6. Idk if u actually watch the games, but no other team had penalties stolen from them than real madrid.
7. Valencia had 3 penalties against us last year, none of em was that clear so idk what u mean when u say they favor big teams.

Those are pundits. You would think they know the law. Since Valencia was given a Pen, Mendy cannot get a red unless it's dangerous. It's either a pen or red but not both

Not trying to disrespect the guys but I am a trained ref and the reason he didn't get a straight red was because a penalty was given. The laws of the game is that a penalty is punishment enough so unless it was harmful intentions a penalty and red card should never be given for same situation. If they going be pundits of a game they need to stay updated on the laws or atless not sound so sure about themselves

That's not the first time a penalty have been given for defender holding his opponent from playing the ball in the box and I've never seen a red been given for it.

Real madrid had alot of calls against this season , and yet these clowns only see the times when refs makes mistakes in favor of real madrid

Where were the ESPN FC pundits, Pique and all the other Madrid haters when EVERY SINGLE CLEAR PEN or RED CARD went against us? This was our 4th pen this season when we should've had at least double. So HOW ON EARTH are we favoured? anyone remember the 4-1 loss last season vs Valencia? 3 pens that were ENTIRELY not penalties. Stop hating, mistakes may happen, but we are NOT FAVOURED.

Even more CRAZY is Hernandez Hernandez being accused of favouring us, US? HE HATES US, hes cost us league titles and El Clasico's he's LITERALLY THE BARCA PET!

Ther have been so many games as a Real Madrid fan where I have been fuming with the calls against us. It’s just more noticeable when it goes our way. Such is football

There was actual hand ball in the box, which was a penalty for RM. Fun fact, a similar thing happened last year & Valencia got 3 penalties against RM. Craig is out of touch, there wasn't a bias against RM, we didn't get a penalty too.

Another thing, Militao got a yellow because a player did what Casemiro did. It was baiting fouls. Before RM got that penalty, RM had a lot of yellow cards & Valencia got none, yet Valencia had fouls that stopped actual attacks & counter attacks but no yellows. Casemiro got away with not getting yellow few times but there was fouls given. Another match with Getafe, Marcelo gets his shirt pulled... was obvious & no penalty.

I am saying this because Craig's point of things going in favour RM is fiction & a fantasy. That ref had actual history of being unfair to RM, that's why RM fans were whistling him all the time.

This is so ridiculous, Real Madrid have been given the least amount of penalties this season among all La Liga teams, only two, and anyone who watched Madrid games this season knows that there were far more refereeing decisions that went against them than in their favor, especially in games where they needed a penalty much more desperately than this game, such as the game against Osasuna where they were struggling to open the scoring and there was a rather clear foul on Nacho in the box but the ref ignored it.

But now as soon as Real Madrid have been given a penalty in a game where they would've won anyway (don't forget that the final scoreline was 4-1), everybody seems to be losing their mind over this. The bias against Madrid is disgusting.

Marcelo received this same foul during Madrid's last game & I heard no hooting and hollering from the pundits. Spare me the BS

If all the decisions were called in Madrid's favor still would have won all their games cause there are plenty calls that goes against Madrid that cause them to lose matches.

Burnley has always had this clear bias for Madrid, where were you after the Getafe game to have the morality to claim a favouritism towards Madrid. Madrid has had many calls against them than for this season, check your records

Are they not aware that you don't get red cards and penalties anymore?
