Thank you....I just upgraded my Active Directory. This step by step was very helpful. Everyone: If upgrading AD on a live network, give it a few hours to move all of the AD to the new server. Testing right afterwards logins and network permissions didn't work and put me in "OH CRAP" mode. After waiting overnight, the next morning all was well and I I now rest easier.

An Excellent video, simple to follow, i will deploy it soon, in our Organization and i will post the result....I will migrate from Server 2003 to 2012 for +3000 users and around 300 Computers ...etc

Follow this guide closely, step by step and my upgrade went extremely well, almost perfect. I hit a few snags when trying to demote the old 2003 server, but that was because I had 2 DNS entries on the old server, after i changed it to only have the DNS entry of the new server, the demotion process went smoothly.

The Active Directory migration was flawless and the replication between new servers 2012 domain was a success.  I will wait couple more weeks before I decommission our last Windows Server 2003 AD server.  I also have my written notes if anyone interested. The next phase of my project is to upgrade Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.

A few questions and comments:1) Why do you also raise the domain and trust when some documentation from TechNet only do users and computers?2) Is it also a good idea to name your active directory services password different from your domain or local password?3) do you offer any videos on moving files shares from a DC to the newly made DC? Basically....when copying over the files and folders from old DC D: drive to new DC D: drive, it copies over the security an share permissions assigned to each file and folder share? This would save us a load of time. Unfortunately, we'll have to update the shortcuts on each workstation lol.Thanks and great video.

Great Video. I followed your instructions and i have migrated my DC to 2012.

I ran into two issues. I could not transfer FSMO roles due to connection issues where the new server would not appear as an option. This was resolved by removing a CNAME of the new server in the Forward Lookup on the old server. The second issue was that NETLOGON and SYSLOG did not appear as shares. MS KB 947022 resolved this. Once done, dcpromo could see the new server and the rest followed like the video.

Peter - yes you can with some other considerations on the SBS. You need to un-install Exchange on the SBS. Also after go through Group Policy on the new box and remove SBS specific policies.
