It is certainly possible. Infact unsafe needles and peer sense where the needles is either not new and not appropriately sterilized. This is a an important cause for transmission of HIV infection, Hepatitis B infection, Hepatitis C infection all over the world. Usually in tattoo centers or piercing centers which are licensed by appropriate authorities. There are standards which mandate the use of new needles or needles which are sterilized according to very strictly laid out guidelines. If these are followed, the likelihood of infection is very very nil. However if the quality of these practices is not clearly known, my advice is to avoid visiting such places for needle piercings or ear piercings or tattoos and if you have been exposed , then you should get yourself tested for HIV, Hepatitis, B and Hepatitis C.
