This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. A picture is worth a 1000 words... but which language does it speak?
Ann Dooms is professor at the Department of Electronics and Informatics (ETRO) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and iMinds.
She received the degree and PhD in Mathematics in 2000 and 2004 respectively, both from the VUB. In October 2007, she founded a research team at ETRO in Multimedia Forensics to discover, retrace or invert the successive operations a multimedia item - or its source - has undergone or the path it has followed, purely based on digital image processing. The team consists of several PhD students, postdocs and software engineers working on fundamental, strategic and applied projects in a broad range of application domains both with industrial as well as societal valorization opportunities. Topics include the protection of multimedia through digital watermarking, perceptual quality assessment, compressive sensing for medical imaging and digital painting analysis.
Ann Dooms was elected as a member of the Jonge Academie and the IEEE Technical Committee in Information Forensics and Security. She was nominated for EOS magazine’s Gouden Pipet Award for the most promising young researcher of 2013 in Flanders and received in 2014 the Second Prize in Science Communication of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium in Sciences and Arts.
