This is a simple build and it works great!

If you have a 240V outlet, this is an affordable and very effective scalder. Just source a container between 10-15 gallons and make a quick trip to the local hardware store.

I built one of these. Same size barrel but I used a 2000w element on a 110v 20 amp circuit because it's what I had. Took 2 hrs to heat from very cold water but once it heated it had no problem keeping temp for 30 birds. The only issue i see is when we do 100 birds I will have to add water at some point which will cool it down. Not sure how long it will take to recover. I'll probably add hot water from the tap to be safe. This thing is awesome though! Way less hassle than a burner and pot. And cheaper!

What is your preferred setup with the three heating elements used. Also any recommendations on maintenance. I was thinking of adding removable metal mesh to protect the heating element. Have you done any further tests on the thermostats to see if you can keep the temp more consistent?

This is awesome. Thank you!! You seem electrically inclined; what changes would have to be made in order to run twin 4500w heaters? Would you go twin thermostats for redundancy or an analog P value almost, setting one at a slightly lower temp? Much higher gauge cord I would assume as well.
