It sucks, I know if I was there I would be beating myself up for not memorizing those 6 or 7 characters of the license plate which is all that is needed to get justice in any car accident really. A trick is that the 3 letters are usually grouped together, make a word to remember those 3 letters. So if the plate is "6MLR473", you could remember "6-miller-473" instead of each individual character. This why a lot of new neighborhoods are installing license cameras just to look at in incidents like this.

Unless someone rides a bicycle they aren't aware or concerned of the vulnerability of a cyclist when they are zooming by in their car. Houston drivers and riders tend to be aggressive and only concerned with their well being (selfish societal values, but not all fit into this box). If you don't believe me, sit and observe drivers going through any of Houston's school zones, very little traffic slows down and follows the speed limit unless an officer is visibly stationed in or around that school zone.
I usually ride alone and because of that I've had to install a tracking app so that loved ones can see where I am as a "just in case, " which was a scary conversation to have with them. And although I try my best to ride safely, I can't control what others do and how they react around me especially as the city grows and more drivers are driving distracted, intoxicated, or some combination of both. One last thing I'll add is that even protected green lanes aren't safe as I've seen many vehicles turn into them, especially in the downtown core.

These cyclists be hogging the right of way though. They don’t stop when the light turns red like they are SUPPOSED to but prop their bikes up against cars who are trying to drive in a mob fashion. Especially downtown when they hold up traffic through 3 sometimes 4 light cycles.
Cyclists have the same rights yes-but...they also have the SAME RESPONSIBILITIES as motorists. Stop means stop.
