Unison in Harmony | The Longest Johns

This beautiful song was written by Jim Boyes of Coope, Boyes & Simpson, who have been massive inspirations to us over the years. This is our tribute to their great work in song and songwriting. It also felt incredibly appropriate for the state of the world at the moment to keep in mind the things that can bring us together, rather than drive us apart

Lyrics:
Soaring skywards, leaping sideways,
Do or die words cleave the air.
Joy and laughter, mornings after,
Raise the rafters we don't care,
If the roof's beyond repair.

Raise the rafters, raise the rafters,
Raise the rafters we don't care
If the roof's beyond repair.

Sisters brothers, to all others,
Let this be our guiding star.
Hearts on fire but no Messiah,
Hear the music from afar.
What we sing is what we are.

Hear the music, hear the music,
Hear the music from afar
What we sing is what we are.

Over hills and over valleys,
Over mountains, over seas.
Nations shall sing unto nations
Until nations cease to be.
Unison in harmony.

Until nations, until nations,
Until nations cease to be
Unison in harmony.

This song has it all, bass Andy, constant and lovely harmonies, and just being all around wonderful. It's giving me a hug and thats exactly what I need.

Definitely a song for our times. Loving JD's passion for this song.

I love how the baritone and lead tenor are in unison and the high tenor is in harmony, until the last refrain where they're all in unison. That's just really clever songwriting. And the performance is, of course, perfectly adequate.

You folks never cease to entertain, amaze, and shine a light of musical joy into our world!

Perfectly adequate, indeed…

A follow-up note: Thanks for releasing the song as a track! Hooray! … I’ll confess to holding out hope for this (mostly) a cappella version, too, though, your vocal harmonies come through FAR more strongly here.

Aah, so beautiful! I love it so much. Amazing, amazing harmonies. I've discovered lately how much I enjoy Andy's bass. It's so good! I just love all your voices.

Anyone else using this as their comfort song over the past couple days?

this should absolutely be the next community project where you add groups of people from different parts of the world join in at different parts, like have england start, then the south/north america joins in, etc.

Andy, J.D., Robbie, thank you for these beautiful harmonies, and introducing me to new music. I wasn’t familiar with this song or that band. I’m still so sad I didn’t get to see you guys in concert 😢I had a ticket but wasn’t able to travel at that time. I hope you come to South Florida or to Boston again. ❤
