Donna Jackson was one of the first people that had an LVAD placed at Stanford. The procedure is meant as a bridge to heart transplant. After almost 3 years on the LVAD Jackson's heart had gotten so strong that doctors at Stanford were able to do a minor and new catheter-based procedure that liberated Jackson from the LVAD’s batteries, controller and external driveline.

I have had a Heart Mate 2 for about 7 years, My heart ha improved, they talked about decommissioning my LVAD (cutting it off and tucking it in after being hospitalized) Then they changed their mind, saying there was only a 1% chance of survival. A new heart is not an option for me so I guess I will keep it. I feel blessed to alive and have aide of loning husband.
I hope Donna is alive and enjoying life.

How exactly can a heart 'recover' ? Did they do stem cell therapy on something?
