Iko Iko (Dixie cups) | Acoustic Loop cover | The Distance

Hello folks! Here's our cover of this incredible and timeless song which, try as we might, cannot be separated from our memory of the movie Beetlejuice... what an ending... and what a soundtrack!!!
We used the looper built onto the TC Helicon Voicelive 3 to put down a simple, percussive loop using all our favourite small instruments (we made the claves ourselves by sawing a drumstick in half, which is why they sound awful).

It's strange and incredibly freeing to not have to worr about anything but the vocal and a bassline (thanks again TC for the octave effect), and a bit of light thumping from Sophie. If you pay attention to the arrangement, you'll see why we couldn't add this thump to the loop, since there's the odd extra bar here and there that really helps drive the story along, as well as marking the start of a new secion beautifully.
