In this special episode of Global Insights on the theme of “tomorrow’s leaders in international affairs”, masters students from the School of International Service at American University, the Balsillie School of International Affairs, and the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick come together to discuss some of the world’s most pressing challenges, and how the international community can work together to address them.

Panelists

Benedikt Beck, BSIA/University of Waterloo and Konstanz University. Benedikt is in the Master’s program in Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz with specialization in International Administration and Conflict Management as well as in Methods of Social Sciences. He currently participates in the exchange program with the BSIA and his main research interests include the forecasting of violent conflict, topics in political economy as well as illiberal democracies, particularly in eastern Europe.

Michael Higham, University of Warwick. Michael is a recent graduate from Warwick University having just completed a Masters in Public Policy. His main research interests focus on European politics, the links between identity and European integration, as well as strategies of legitimisation in political discourse. He hopes to be starting a PhD in early 2022 examining narratives of exceptionalism in the EU and how they have been used to ostensibly legitimise the European project.

Sahil Mathur, American University. Sahil Mathur is a PhD candidate at American University’s School of International Service. He holds MPhil degrees from American University and Jawaharlal Nehru University and conducts research and teaches courses on international organizations and global governance.

Ashley Mungai, BSIA/University of Waterloo and University Warwick. Ashley Mungai is a Junior Professional Consultant at United Nations Association Canada (UNA-C) and co-founder of a charity in Kenya combatting FGM and early marriages. Ashley is a qualified lawyer from the University of Warwick and a proud MAGG Fellow here at the Balsillie School of International Affairs where she is currently completing her second master in Global Governance.

S-L Tabujara, BSIA/Wilfrid Laurier University. Ms. Tabujara is a student of the Masters of International Public Policy program with the Balsillie School of International Affairs and Wilfrid Laurier University. Her research interests revolve around the nexus between technology, innovation, social, political and economic policies.

Shreyanshi Upadhyaya, University of Warwick. Shreyanshi pursued an MA in International Relations after receiving the PAIS Master’s Scholarship for 2020-21 from the University of Warwick, where she also worked as a Research Assistant at the Warwick Interdisciplinary Centre for International Development (WICID). She draws inspiration from Postcolonial and Feminist International Relations theories, and her current research interests centre on optics, popular culture, and the construction of the national security environment in India.
