What does Donald Trump’s presidency means for West Bank settlements? | BBC News

Donald Trump’s re-election as US President this month is seen by many Israeli settlers as an opportunity to press ahead with the annexation of the occupied West Bank.

Israeli settlements have doubled in the last five years and are now home to more than 500,000 settlers.

The settlements are viewed as illegal by the UN's top court and most other countries, but Israel disputes that.

Israel's far-right Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, publicly called for annexing the Israeli settlements in the West Bank following Trump’s election victory in November, but formal annexation has so far remained a dream for settlers.

Before becoming a US politician, one must swear loyalty to AIPAC above all else.

It's so unbelievably absurd and entitled to claim territory in 2025 based on ancient historical borders that haven't been relevant since Roman times. By this logic the world's 200, 000 Zoroastrians should be able to claim the entirety of Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq exclusively for themselves because thats how it was under the Achaemenid Persian empire.

Do a DNA test and tell us if you have any Middle Eastern ancestry. The answer is no. That’s why you need a court order to get a DNA test in Israel.

And then they question why Palestinians don't want to live with together with them. As if the Palestinians are the agressors.

Sure, what it means for settlements, not for Palestinians living under occupation and constant settler violence?

If the Israelis do not accept the two-state solution, I think Trump will abandon them this time. The problem in the Middle East is Iran, its militias, and Israel. Knowing the root of the problem will lead to the solution

The Fourth Geneva Convention holds the an Occupier must not act adversarially against civilians of an occupied territory. Judea and Israel were lost to the Assyrians and Babylonians before the Persian, Greek and Roman invasions. On deeper history Canaan was a province Ancient Egypt. There zero archaeological evidence of the Exodus or the validity theological writings contained in related text.

There might be real arguments for annexation, but once you pull out the "God gave them this land 3, 500 years ago" card, you've completely lost credibility.
