Where in the World is Muhi Going? Follow along to find out.
Welcome to my travel diary:
Ramadan in Palestine 2 years ago. I visited the Western Wall, commonly known as the Wailing Wall. sacred site in Jerusalem’s Old City. It’s a remnant of the retaining wall that surrounded the Temple Mount, which was the site of the First and Second Temples of Jerusalem.
Significance:
The Western Wall is Judaism’s most sacred site. It’s a place of prayer and pilgrimage for Jewish people. The wall’s holiness comes from its proximity to the Holy of Holies on the Temple Mount.
History:
The lower courses of the wall date back to the Herodian retaining wall, built in the late 1st century BCE. The Romans left the outer wall standing after destroying the Second Temple. Sultan Suleyman I restored Jerusalem’s city walls in 1536 and encouraged Jews to settle in the city. Throughout the history of Palestine, especially under Muslim rule, there was peace between the monotheistic brotherhood of faiths.
