It is wonderful that you have this recorded conversation with your Father to keep and share with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! He is a remarkable man who bridges the changes historically and can tell us about them. I really appreciate his willingness to share these experiences and insights with us. I am also American/Canadian, so not raised with much understanding of the details of the British Parliament or governing process.
It would be also fascinating to hear about from your Mother’s point of view!

We have a similar Parliamentary system here in Canada. Not surprising since we adopted the British model: House of Commons and the Senate. While not peers, Senators are currently appointed, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. We've been debating the value of an unelected Senate for decades.

Listening to and watching his father, it's easy to see and hear how Luke became the wonderful son, husband, and father he himself is. Both are humble, charming men.
