1. Optimize note format: Use methods like Cornell or three-column notes to prepare an outline in advance. This allows for faster information recording during lectures or readings.

2. Prioritize vocabulary: Identify and note down definitions and key terms, as they often hold crucial concepts within your notes. Highlight vocab while reading or listening to lectures.

3. Actively listen, don’t just write: Take pauses from writing to truly absorb the professor’s explanations. Merely transcribing without understanding won’t make your notes meaningful.

4. Review notes post-class: Take time to skim over your notes after class. This refreshes your memory, clarifies concepts, and aids in retrieval. Don’t skip this important step!

5. Summarize for clarity: When faced with lengthy passages, quickly skim and then summarize the main idea in one to two sentences.
