Hello my lovelies!

Here’s a new Dark London melody to accompany your reading and writing of murder mysteries. I called this song ‘No Such Thing as Fair’.

We all love and cherish out witty fictional detectives, but were there any real no less impressive limbs of law who fought the flood of crime in Victorian Streets?

In the 19th century, there was a police officer called Jerome Caminada, whom some call Manchester’s Sherlock Holmes. His most famous case was the Manchester Cab Murder in which the murderer was apprehended only three weeks after the crime.

The life of Caminada was under constant threat, as he was responsible for imprisonment of thousands of criminals, and thus, many a soul sought revenge. The Detective dealt with many organised attacks, violent turf wars and anarchists. He also exposed many scams that exploited ordinary people.

Caminada’s policing style was quite eccentric, and was sometimes frowned upon by his colleagues. He often used dressing in disguise to gather evidence. Like Sherlock, he maintained a large network of informers, and was made Detective Superintendent early in his career. He became a private detective upon retirement.
