Night walk around Istanbul Bakirköy Istanbul Travel Guide 2020...
Bakirkoy is a very lively area. You can go to the nice bars/cafes/restaurants at the Atakoy Marina area where the pier for fast ferries are, you could eat nice kebab at Gelik restaurant on Kennedy boulevard, or you could spend an hour or two at the malls like Galleria and Capacity. ...
While you can travel from Bakirkoy to these areas, it would mean constant traveling for everything you want, and not being close to any of the things you are going to Istanbul for.
It would also mean traveling back to your hotel late at night (if you are going for nightlife) - and public transport stops around midnight which means you would need two taxis.
I like Bakirkoy area. It may not be ideal but it is definitely a reasonable choice. Hotels at Bakirkoy are only 20 minutes away from Sultanahmet. You simply get on the local train at Bakirkoy and get off at Cankurtaran/Sultanahmet station and you would be only 10 minutes walk away from Blue Mosque. It is true that trains run till midnight but if you are late in returning to your hotel you can take a taxi. However you can have public transport 24/7 if you want to use the metrobus. For example if you are at Kadikoy area(Asian side) or Sisli/Mecidiyekoy area, you can always take the metrobus to Bakirkoy 24 hours a day. Bakirkoy is a safe area. It has a seabus port also where you can take a fast ferry to Yenikapi, Kadikoy or Bostanci. Finally Bakirkoy hotels are cheaper than those at Sultanahmet. Here is a previous thread Bakirkoy has many great malls for shopping. Capacity mall, Carousel mall and Galleria are good malls that you can shop at.

It is a matter of choice and Bakirkoy is fine.

good luck,
