Equivalent Ratio for 1/4

To find three equivalent ratios for 1/4, we can multiple double the numerator and denominator to get 2/8. This is an equivalent ratio to 1/4. If you divide 1/4 or 2/8 you will get the same decimal value (0.25).

Note that the term equivalent ratio is sometimes called an equivalent fraction.

We could also multiply the numerator and denominator of 1/4 by 3. This would give us 3/12 which is also an equivalent ratio for the fraction 1/4. Both have the same decimal value, it is just that they are represented differently (1/4 is simplified and in lowest terms).

Finally we could multiply 1/4 by 4/4 and get 4/16 which is another equivalent ratio for 1/4.

As long as we multiply the numerator and the denominator by the same number we'll get an equivalent ratio.
